アーネル・ピネダ（arnel pineda）について
私は中学生の時に「glee」と言うアメリカのドラマでジャーニーを知って彼らの曲が好きになりました。
ジャーニーのベストヒットのアルバムを借りて聞いていました。なので当時（1970年や80年）にジャーニーがどれほどの人気を博し、人々に影響を与えていたかは全く知りません。しかし私自身、12年間トランペットを吹き続け、地元のポップスバンドで活動しています。なので、バンドで活動し、さらにメインボーカルであることは喜ばしいことであると同時にものすごい重圧がのしかかることが分かります。
バンドというのはベース・リズム・メロディーで成り立っています。立ち位置としてボーカルが一番前に出され、映像ではメインで写して売り出されますが、
音楽の本質としてはドラムもベースもギターもピアノもボーカルも平等に大切な立ち位置なのです。バンドでは一つのパートに対してそれぞれ役割があり、技術の高い人であれば、その仕事を全うすることができます。プロはそこに個性を乗っけて音楽を提供しているのです。なので私はボーカルが変わったからと言って昔がどうだったとか、批判する人は、本当に音楽を聞いているのではなく、ただ映像を見ているだけだと思います。
アーネルはボーカルとして素晴らしい技術を持ち、音楽家からの要望に応え、さらにそこに個性を乗せる本当のプロだと思います。そして多くの古巣のファンがいるジャーニーのリードボーカルになるという、凡人には耐えきれない重圧にも耐えています。
